My name’s Mike; I’m a graduate student in philosophy studying linguistics, logic, and statistics. It’s not quite a traditional philosophy program.
Originally from the south, transplanted to the north for school. I’m much more home amongst northerners as I don’t have a twang and I don’t particularly enjoy sweet tea or pulled pork. I’m not too fond of the cold, but I much prefer the ability to live my life without a car — a feat seldom achieved in the urban sprawl of Raleigh, North Carolina.
What do I hope to do? More than anything, I want to start a school for underprivileged kids and become a popularizer of philosophy (and myself, if I’m particularly lucky). Writing philosophical works for popular consumption is something I’d love to do — it ties into my desire to teach. I think the public at large could use a touch of historical perspective and critical thinking — we’ll see what I can do (if anything at all).
